Mascara at the Midway

Mascara enters—ahh, real musicians. Chris Mascara leads this trio with dynamic, theatrical, even possessed vocals, and his own sparse but rockin’ guitar style. Chris is not afraid to express himself with his whole body—making for an entertaining show. At one point his guitar is on the floor squealing as he rips off his shirt and proceeds to hump new feedback out of his defenseless instrument. Bo Berringer (bass) and Matt Graber (drums) drive the beat with such efficiency that Chris can stop playing his guitar whenever he wants to let the vocals stand out. The songs range from hard rockers to strange dynamic compositions, like the one where Chris spells his name out like it’s a nursery rhyme. Good show. (T Max)
